As most of you have seen on facebook https://www.facebook.com/tammy.mueckephotographer?ref=tn_tnmn, Shannon, Jason and I spent our day helping with disaster relief for the town of Pilger, Nebraska today. I was not sure what I was going to see when I got there. You see images in the paper and on the news, but until you are actually there, and you see it in person, you just do not know what you are in store for. We got there not knowing if we were going to be able to get in and help, but all three of us were bound and determined to be there and help, and so we did! We brought donations from so many of our friends, via facebook, in a matter of about 14 hours after Jason posted on his status that he wanted to get whatever he could together, so he could go cook for the volunteers, and for whomever was there. He said he just felt like he had to go. Well, bless his heart for that feeling, and as soon as I seen his post, I said I was in! I am so glad that I went with he and Shannon!! I could have never asked for a more eye opening experience. I’ve never really been through anything like this before myself, but I have helped with such disasters as Katrina, from the town I lived in at the time, Bossier City, La. During the Katrina ordeal, we donated our time and efforts in helping with all of the animals that were brought up to Bossier, from New Orleans. That experience in itself, was both heart breaking and heart warming. So today, we fed hundreds of people, they shared stories with us about finding photos, important papers, and a few found their pets, alive, and maybe scratched up a little, but still ok. This one woman in particular came up with tears of relief and happiness bc she had just found her cat! Shannon and I cried about that one for sure. I could not imagine losing Remy. Although she drives me batty sometimes with her hyperness, she is my unconditional love, and I love her more and more, every day!! We received hundreds of “Thank yous”, which was so amazing, bc they were the ones who had been working so hard in the sun half the day, in the dust and rubble. The verbal thank yous were so great, but the lines of people coming through, and the hundreds of people lying in the shade, after eating what we and Tyson Foods had brought for all of those people, that was all the THANK YOU that I needed. I could go on and on about all of the things that happened, what we learned and experienced, but the one thing I was reminded most of today is…….. …..you never know what will happen tomorrow…..SO LOVE THE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE WITH EVERYTHING THAT YOU HAVE!! Be who you are, live your life how you want to live it, and LOVE, AND PRAY, AND HOPE, AND HAVE FAITH. Things happen, there is nothing we can do about it, it is life, but you can LOVE, PRAY, HOPE AND HAVE FAITH!! AND, TAKE AS MANY PHOTOS AS YOU CAN!! Most of you that know me, know that I am going to want to capture the story to the day as well. Although I do not know much about the town itself, or know anyone there, I now know what an amazing and positive community it really is. These images are pretty rough, but they do show how hard they all worked, and how much work they have ahead of them.
